I’ve also done my best to confirm that a central, point of view, or in the case of ensembles casts, a significant female-identifying character is queer, but in a couple of cases I have assumed such character exists based on the author’s body of previous work. This list is by no means complete as publishers aren’t always great about marketing their releases as LGBTQ+ interest. I did not expect to find an explosion of queer girl YA, but it looks like 2020 is shaping up to be a very gay year! And what’s more, this list is actually more diverse than any in years past (although we could always do better on this front). They all sound femenine. When I set out to compile a list of YA books starring queer girls as protagonists and point-of-view characters hitting shelves in 2020, I had hoped to find that the number of books releasing had gone up from last year.

As for the narrator, I think she was okay, but her distinction between male and female voices is not good. I hate when a character who in his past has always been kind and loving suddenly comes in all villain like, with stupid cheese villain lines and behavior. I desperately HATE when a love triangle, especially one involving lgbtq people, is resolved because one of them was actually a traitor who never loved them. I know characters with flaws are realistic, but Camille was incredibly irresponsible, whiny and unbearable. Nevermind you she was unfaithful in so many ways so many times. Then whines again cuz, wouldn't you know it, her plan failed and her friends were nearly killed, but once again, she won't listen to anyone for help, all the while whining. Camille, the oh so great leader, whines so much about how she's responsible for the safety of her battalion, then proceeds to put them in terribly dangerous situations and completely ignores when someone has opinions. I came to highly dislike most characters. It dragged on abc characters became so unbearable! it just dragged on and on.

I stopped reading for a couple of months because I simply didn't care anymore. But then, it just annoyed me and bored me. It's fun and action packed and characters are interesting.
